FILING KRA RETURNS
Many normal Kenyans have not yet filed their tax returns as of today despite the looming deadline. Most of them are waiting for the 30th June deadline to start the hassle. there are some who do not even care to file their return at all due to ignorance anticipating no one would ever catch them.
Previously, people used to queue to have their returns filed. It was a tedious process to have your returns filed until the advancement in technology led to creation of the I tax portal by The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). This has long since made filing tax very easy and efficient. The I tax system is a web portal that every Kenyan with a KRA pin has access to.
Many people are not aware of the handy capabilities of the I tax system. The sophisticated system has broad functionality not limited to; automated ledger updates, filing of all types of returns, printing of important documents like the withholding tax certificates and so much more.
IS IT A MUST TO FILE KRA RETURNS?
Yes every Kenyan that bears a KRA pin must file tax returns every financial year. Even if you had no income at any point in that financial year, you have to declare by filing Nil returns. Failing to file your returns attracts a penalty
